Prompt – Marking Period 2
Write a brief summary about your book and the main character. Then, tell what you like the best about the main character. Explain. What do you like the least about your main character? Explain. Your response should be 2-3 paragraphs.
The Plum Tree is about a girl named Christine who lives in Germany. It takes place just before World War II is about to begin. She falls in love with Isaac, who is Jewish. Christine’s family is very poor, and they actually work for Isaac’s wealthy family. Since they are from different social classes, Christine has to keep her crush a secret until one day she finds out that Isaac feels the same way about her. Just as they are beginning their relationship, World War II hits, and Isaac has to go into hiding because he is Jewish. He gets taken to a concentration camp, and Christine fears she will never see him again.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about Christine is that she isn’t perfect. She comes from a family who is poor, but she is a hard worker and very skilled. She also is a very loving and caring sister. She takes great care of her younger siblings.
What I do not like about Christine is that she makes some risky choices. For example, when she sees Isaac, enslaved by the Germans, walking through her town, she calls out to him. Then, she hides him in her attic. The Germans end up finding him and send both of them to concentration camps.
I read a book named Shatter Me about a girl named Juliette that has a special power. Her power is that if she touched people, they get an intense amount of pain until she let go. The Reestablishment heard of her and now want her as a weapon. Eventually while captured, Juliette meets Adam. Her and Adam start to fall in love on this dangerous situation. They wonder if they can ever escape the Reestablishment together.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Juliette is how she doesn’t like her power. She knows that she hurts people and she doesn’t like doing it. She tries her best to not hurt them while still following the Reestablishment’s orders.
What I don’t like about Juliette is how she never fights back. She should’ve tried fighting against the Reestablishment. Or , when she got bullied and judged when she was in elementary school. Juliette let everyone walk all over her she could’ve fought back.
Do they know how Juliette got her power?

DeleteHow is she able to hurt people when she touches them do they tell you why? I think she is a good person to know that it's not nice to hurt someone. Shouldn't they find a way to stop the power to hurt people so she can control it.
DeleteCourtney, when she lets go of the person they stop feeling pain. Michael, she was born with this power they can't help her get rid of it. But , she can wear special clothes so she can touch people without hurting them.
DeleteThe book I am reading is Tunnels. Tunnels is about two kids Will and Chester when they find a tunnel in Wills house after his father disappeared. They reach a underground world and get arrested for trespassing. Will is forced to go with a family that he does not know and has to leave Chester behind. He finds out he has a brother. He and his brother Cal have to win and get away from the underground before he is caught and get back to his regular life.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I like best about Will is that he likes to figure things out. He also likes to go on adventures. Also to find new things. It could help him find a cure for something.
What I do not like about Will is he does not care enough about the safety of family, friends and people that help him. He would be a good friend if he had given everyone safety.
This book somewhat sounds like the City Of Ember because you said how people are underground. Also what is the cure for?

DeleteTo Courtney, Chester is supposed to get sent to the underground world forever I have not heard of anything else yet. The mom is in a hospital for a treatment to get in shape. Cal if from an underground family and no one searched for them.
DeleteIn the book I’m reading, The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta just did and individual training in front of the gamemakers. Katniss got a bow and realized the strings were tighter than hers, but she got used to it. None of the gamemakers were looking at her so she shot an arrow through an apple in the pig’s mouth!
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about Katniss is that she’s fearless and is able to stand out. Like when the gamemakers wouldn’t look at her she made them by shooting an arrow at an apple.
What I don’t like about Katniss is that she gets angry about things easily for no reason. Like when Peeta said he had a crush on her, she almost punched him in the face!
I agree with you on that last paragraph! Katniss has no reason to get mad most of the time!

ReplyDeleteThe thing I like about Carter Kane is that he is very level headed and brave even in deathly situations. The one thing I like Sadie Kane for is that she is very cocky and quick witted against any opponent.
The thing I dislike about Carter is that he always doubts himself even after doing the impossible. The thing that I can't stand about Sadie is that she is very bratty and only worries about herself and her problems rather than trying to help other people as much as Carter.
I read this book! Carter is very brave and he likes to help people! Sadie is a brat though sometimes.
DeleteMocking Jay is about a girl named Katniss who had just got back from the Quarter Quell. She went back to District 12 to find it in ashes, she then wants to kill President Snow. Her, Gale, and Peeta go to the Capital to kill him, but end up losing many of their soldiers on the journey. She then kills someone other than Snow, and Peeta comes back to his senses and comforts her through the pain that came from this.
ReplyDeleteI like how Katniss doesn’t take no for answer and how she just does what she wants, without breaking her promises. Though it may end up killing her, I love that part about her. She stood by her promise to get Peeta back to his senses, but ends up almost getting really hurt because of it.
I don’t like how she just does things without thinking. She doesn’t think that it could possibly kill her, or get injured really bad. She just does what she wants, when she wants. She never thinks twice if it could kill her team or anything like that. When she wants to do something, she does it.
Wow lili that sounds very interesting.To me though it sounds like she is going off of her instincts rather than her thoughts.

DeleteYou have encouraged me to read all of the hunger games books. Why does she try to gain what she wants when it can do bad things and she knows it? Why try it when they can make it worse for you?

Hannah, They some how hypnotized him. The author doesn't go into much detail about it, she just says that he was hypnotized.
But thats why people like her as a charecter

DeleteThe book The People Of Sparks is about the people from Ember who come up and they find people. The people from Sparks takes the people from Ember back to their village. They are excited about the new things in the real world. Then later on in the book they are deciding to have a war or not to have a war. The main character is cool. He is also brave. I think he is brave more than anything. This is because he goes on dangerous missions. He just got back from a mission.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like best about the character is that he is brave. I think this because he goes on dangerous missions. Sometimes this bad for him because he could get really hurt. Also he goes on missions back to Ember. That is dangerous because all the electricity probably out already.
What I like least about Doon is how he always thinks that he is the boss, WHen the people from Sparks are really the boss. I can agree the he might the boss of Ember but not Ember and Sparks together.
What do you mean by it is dangerous because the electricity is probably out? Most of the time in everything you read there is a person that thinks they are the boss. This book sounds very interesting.

DeleteAttack on Titan is about a world that has been pushed to the brink of extinction because of monsters called Titans that have shown up out of nowhere 100 years before the story begins. The main character, Eren Jaeger, is a fifteen year old boy who hates Titans with a burning passion and wants to rid the world of them because they killed his mother when he was ten years old and prevent him from leaving the walls that circle around the last cities controlled by humans. In book five, which is the book I was reading, Eren’s titan shifting ability is made known to the public and he is put on trial to see which brigade will take custody of him.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about Eren is that I can relate to him. We are both aggressive people who don’t usually think when we are angry. He is also an “underdog”, as my mother put it for me in August. She had told me that we are both underdogs because Eren had his dreams pushed away from him when everyone told him not to become a soldier to fight against Titans. I asked her how I was an underdog, since she did not explain that yet. She related me and Eren by saying that we both don’t want our dreams to be crushed or taken away by people doubting us. Yes, it is a bit of a stretch, relating a fictional Titan-killer to an actual person who wants to be an artist. But, there are a few connections between us, as my mom told me after watching the first four episodes of Attack on Titan with me.
What I don’t like about Eren is that he will sometimes take orders and follow them, when it probably was not the best plan in the world, and other times he will act on anger and wanting to kill Titans, when the plan was actually a very good one. When Eren was in the court on trial, he yelled about how he wanted to go to the Survey Corps, which is the brigade that goes beyond the walls to kill Titans, and how everyone should believe him that he isn’t going to kill anyone and so on. He ended being kicked in the face multiple times by the Survey Corps’ squad leader because he spoke out of turn.
So, how did Eren get his hatred towards the titans? Out of all of this, it sounds like a great series!

DeleteZach,his dad is/was a doctor (The reason for the is/was is because no one is sure if he is alive or not) that somehow got a Titan DNA sample and injected it with a syringe into Eren's blood stream.

DeleteLili, it's possible that he could have, since he basically abandoned Eren the day of Eren's mother's death, but no one is too sure on that yet.

DeleteAn underdog is a lot like an anti-hero, a word we'll be talking about in class. Basically, it's someone who doesn't come off as your classic hero--someone readers don't expect to be successful in their mission because, according to society, they are too scrawny or shy or unpopular compared to their competitors. Personally, I do not think you are an underdog. You show much promise in your work! :)
The main character from Dark Life is Ty. He was born in the deep sea. He found a topsider her name is Gemma, which is another main character . Gemma is looking for her brother. My book is about Ty’s ventures and discovers.It ias also about how a gang mess with other people in the sea, like destory their houses.That is how my main character are and what the book is about.

An example is that they went into a place where you have to be a certain age, they were not the age.That is what I like the best about my main characters.
What I like the least about Ty is that he is cokey. Another reason is that he gets into stuff that he does not need to get into. What I do not like about Gemma is that she doesn't listen anybody. An example is when they were going down to a bar Ty kept telling her not to go down, but she did.That is what I like the least about my main character.

DeleteMy book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about a very wimpy kid named Greg. Greg is now dealing with the pressure of boy-girl parties, increased responsibilities and some very awkward changes.

like when he made his big brother rodrick sit on chocolate so when they went to church it looked like he pooped his pants.
What I dislike about Greg is he always uses his best friend rowley. for example he will sometimes make rowley carry him to school and to his house. Also Greg sometimes lets people just walk all over him. for example his brother always beats him up but it seems like Greg just lets it all happen.
Haha ,Greg is funny throughout all the books! Which book of the series is this?

DeleteUnbelievable A Pretty Little Liars Novel is about 5 friends but one night they had a sleepover and one of their friends named Alison went missing that night. So this book is about 4 friends trying to find out what happen to their friend that night. Ever since Alli’s funeral these 4 friends have been getting texts from A. They don’t know who is sending them but they are watching them every move they make. So Emily got kicked out of her house and now she has to move to Iowa. She has to live with her aunt and uncle that she has not seen since she was 6. She has to move out because of A. A told Emily's mom that she kissed a girl and her mom does not approve of that. Then Hannah and all of her friends beside Emily got another text from A that said “Meet me in the park.” So they did that and Hannah got their early. So she was waiting for her friends and she got ran over by a car. This all happened in one summer. Then the main character in the book is A. I know this because A controls all of the girls lives and tells them what to do. Also they watch the girls everyday.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about the main is that A always manage to says hidden and she tells the girl these what to do. Then A also knows all these secrets about each girl that they never told anybody but Allison but she’s dead. So we do not know how she know all these secrets.
What I do not like about the main character is that A hurts the girls and sometimes makes the girls hurt each other. If they girls do not do what A tells them to do A will tell everybody one of their secrets that is embarrassing or one that would hurt their family. Also A will hurt the girls any chance they get.

ReplyDeleteI do watch the TV shows. The books are some what different from the TV show but both of them have the same background story and the same plot.
DeleteHappy Happy Happy is about is like a biography this guy named Phil Robertson. He loves to be outside and to hunt also fish. But one day he was blowing a duck call and thought that it did not sound like a duck at all. So he wanted to make a duck call that sounded like an actual duck. He also wanted to do it to make some extra money. He also had 4-5 helpers on this job he wanted to do. His helpers would be Mrs Kay HIs wife and his 4 sons Jase, Willie, Jep, and sometimes his older son Alan. He said the younger they are the easier the job was like painting the calls that was Willie and Jase job. Also the older you were the jobs were harder like carving the calls.Now with all of his helpers he is very successful in his business.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like most about Phil Robertson is how he is so nice and caring for his family and friends. Like how he would always take his whole family when ever he would go on trips to go fishing or anything he would never think about leaving his family behind. He also likes to catch fish then go right to a local food store or restaurant and sell them his fresh caught fish that is another and with the leftover fish Willie and Mrs Kay would go on the side of the road and try to sell the leftover fish while Phil Jase and Jep were back at the pond fishing.
What I do not like most about Phil is how he did drugs and alcohol when he was younger. Because I really do not get why people would put drugs into their body especially with alcohol . What drugs do to your body is very bad and if he did not quite in time like he did he could have been dead by now and Duck Dynasty would not be on tv and then where would we be without that funny times in their family. If you ever saw Duck Dynasty and saw that Willie is the head of everything that is because Phil sold the business Duck Dynasty to Willie because Willie had great plans for the business like putting it on A&E.
I didn't know that Phil did drugs when he was younger and you are right I don't know why people do drugs. I thought Phil started the business because they were poor and he couldn't find a job.

DeleteTo Ashlyn: he did have a job before as a teacher but he did not like it he wanted to be a fisherman and sell the fish. But he also like to hunt and thought that the duck calls did not sound like ducks so he made his own duck calls. He also did it to make a little extra money.
DeleteFor Eighth grader KT Sutton, life revolves around softball. And on the biggest softball game of her life she was just about to pitch for the best 8th grade player known in her area. Strike one, strike two. One more strike and her team would win first place, it was all up to KT at this point. As she went to pitch she blacked out. She thought she would wake up in a hospital bed with doctors surrounding her. But she woke up on her bed. That day wasn't right, she couldn't remember anything that happened at the game last night. Also, everything about softball disappeared from the schools website. As the day went on she went to school, hoping to get some answers from yesterdays big game. But when she went everything change, her desks in every class were switched with exercising equipment. Her friends from softball were no longer her friends. Last, everything about softball just vanished, her friends were now math geeks and wanted nothing to do with softball anymore. Therefore, KT is trying to get her life back to normal, but she going to have to go through a lot to do so.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like most about KT is that she will do anything for her teammates. Her life partly depends on softball and her teammates. Also, she is very brave and courageous because she woke up in a whole new world, yet she’s taking it easy and not freaking out. Last, she is dependable because she is trying to do everything possible to get her softball life back. And she won’t give up until that happens. In conclusion KT is very confident, she was confident in herself and her team that they were going to get first place. Also, she is confident that everything will be the way it was before.
What i least like about KT is that she sometimes over thinks things. When they were at the “biggest softball game ever” she kept over thinking things when she was about to pitch. Also, when she woke up she immediately start searching who won the game the night before. Lastly when she went to school she was thinking that maybe all the exercise equipment was just for that one day. Also, she kept over thinking about her friends dressing like nerds and not caring about softball anymore.
What's this book called? It sounds really good though!
Deletethis is brandon saying that the book im reading right now is A Child Called It. it is a story about a boy whos mother beats him nonstop for no reason she says that he is a bad boy but that is not true. she sends him to school wearing a ripped dirty T-shirt one time she mixed a bunch of chemicals together and puts it in the bathroom then shoves her sons face in the bucket and she calls him an "it".

My book is A dogs life and the main character is Squirrel which is an ironic because dogs chase squirrels. She went through a pretty tough life. For example her mom left her and her brother, also when they found a home they were thrown out, then when they were on the side of the road a snobby girl only pick up her brother. So as you can see she went through a tough life.
ReplyDeleteWhat i like about Squirrel is that she was scared as a pup, but now she brave as a adult. She used to follow her brother, but now she has a dog following her now. But the dog (Moon) following her is a brave dog but Moon is pretty little.
What I don’t like about Squirrel is that she’s out in the world without a home (until the end). Also throughout the book she’s just looking for her brother. Also she has a horrible life in the book
